Canada PR Application Fee Requirement for Skilled Immigration Pathways

The coveted permanent residence (PR) visa, which authorizes eligible foreign nationals to permanently live and work in Canada, is accessible through a variety of pathways. Aspirants are obligated to satisfy various conditions in order to be considered for this visa. After meeting all criteria, qualified candidates must finally submit supporting documents and a Canada PR application fee to the federal immigration authority – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

It is important to note that paying the application fee does not guarantee that the visa application will be approved by IRCC. If the application is refused, or withdrawn after processing has begun, the entire fee will usually not be refunded. The amount can be refunded if the application is returned to the applicant – on the basis that it was incomplete, or the program’s intake capacity is exhausted, or the program was yet to be re-opened when the application was received.

The variety of programs for skilled workers that provide direct or indirect routes to the Canada PR Visa have distinct eligibility requirements, but the application fee is uniform, and includes multiple components. Candidates are obligated to pay $CAN 1,040, which includes the Processing Fee ($CAN 550) and the Right of Permanent Residence Fee ($CAN 490). While the Right of Permanent Residence Fee can be paid after the application is approved, IRCC recommends that it should be paid at the application stage, in order to avoid delays.

The non-refundable biometrics fee, applicable to all pathways, is $CAN 85 per person, or a total amount of $CAN 170 for a family of two or more people. The additional cost for including a spouse/partner in the application is $CAN 1,040 – which includes the processing fee ($CAN 550) and Right of Permanent Residence fee ($CAN 490). To include a dependent child, the primary applicant must pay $150 per child.

This fee structure applies to candidates who can fulfil the Canada immigration eligibility requirements for the following skilled migration pathways:

  • Atlantic Immigration Pilot
  • Caregivers Program
  • Express Entry Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Quebec-Selected Skilled Workers
  • Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

Prior to pursuing the ideal program, a candidate must ascertain if they have sufficient financial resources to cover the Canada PR visa application fee for themselves as well as accompanying dependent family members who are included in their visa application. Finally, if the IRCC issues the permanent residence visa to the candidate, they can undertake their journey to Canada in a legitimate manner, with valid authorization.
